The Black Buoy takes pride in its freshly-prepared and home-cooked dishes. Menus include popular, traditional pub food, plus frequently changing and imaginative dishes. Vegetarians are not forgotten!

Chef, Peter Moore, has always lived and worked in Essex. Inspired by parents who loved to cook, Peter trained at Harlow Tech and spent his early career cooking in big hotels and restaurants. Most recently, Peter has worked in independently run pubs in the Chelmsford area.

Peter says, 'My approach is to keep the menu quite small but interesting, varied and British. You won't find any exotic descriptions or 'gastro' on the Black Buoy menu. Whatever you select will be top quality and locally sourced wherever possible and we're already using local suppliers for smoked foods, bread, fish and meat.

As a newcomer to Wivenhoe, I've been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic welcome and great feedback from my first customers. I look forward to serving many more of you!'

Monday - Saturday:

Lunch Menu (12 noon to 3 pm) and Evening Menu (6 pm to 9 pm)

Sundays: Sunday Roasts plus other choices (12 noon to 5 pm)

For tables of 12 or more, pre-ordering is required, along with a £5 deposit per person at the time booking. Deposits must be cash or cheque and the balance paid in one payment.
